I wish I could wear a hidden recording device so I could capture the funny looks I often receive when I talk about Sex and God in the same sentence.
Too often, people fail to make the connection between healthy sexuality and spirituality, viewing them as polar opposites. As if God turns his back in embarrassment and groans, “Oh, gee, they are doing that again!?” whenever we’re engaged in sexually intimate acts.
But I assure you that is NOT God’s response to sex within marriage!
Our sexuality is a gift from God, and just as we take great delight as we watch a loved one open a special gift, God takes great delight when husbands and wives unwrap the gift they’ve been given in one another. There’s no need for guilt. No cause for shame.
God celebrates our sexuality, so shouldn’t we celebrate it as well?
If you struggle with making the connection between healthy sexuality and spirituality, I encourage you to read chapter 15, “Overcoming the Church Lady Syndrome” in The Sexually Confident Wife.
