Seriously, every woman deserves to enjoy a great sexual relationship with her husband, but sadly, only 8% of women make such a claim. Issues such as body inhibition, shame or fear from sexual abuse, guilt over pre-marital sex, lack of knowledge about male or female sexuality, or the false notion that “good girls don’t enjoy sex” often hold women back in the bedroom.

Imagine marrying and getting pregnant before your 13th birthday. Imagine having absolutely no pre-natal care or delivery assistance, losing the baby, and becoming incontinent as a result. Imagine being ostracized by your husband and community and banished to live with others in similar situations out in the bush. Sound too horrific to be true? For thousands of young women in Africa, this nightmare is a stark reality.

This debilitating condition is known as Vesico-Vaginal Fistula (V.V.F.), and although it would be unheard of in most countries, it’s relatively common in developing nations. However, these women do have a chance of a normal life again, thanks to Mercy Ships International. Their volunteers search out these young women, and bring them to their Fistula Clinic in Sierra Leone or their state of the art hospital ship for care.
