Encouragement Corner
We’ve all heard the city’s famous motto: “What happens in Vegas, STAYS in Vegas,” but something happened in Las Vegas last month that needs to be shared with the rest of the world. Why? Because I believe it’s something that needs to happen in every country, in every city, in every household, and in every heart on the planet. Adult women, men, teen girls, and teen guys took an honest self-inventory, identifying the sexual “trash” that they’d allowed to filter into their lives in the past (writing it down on a piece of paper), then throwing that trash where it belongs – in the trash can! The congregation of Reconciliation Apostolic Ministries in Las Vegas boldly declared that they would NOT allow their past to determine their future, especially when it comes to living a life of sexual integrity.

Even though Vegas is referred to even by its residents as “Sin City,” the sexual compromise that takes place there occurs just about everywhere -- addictions to pornography and masturbation… pre-marital and extramarital affairs… homosexual encounters… children conceived out of wedlock… children aborted out of ignorance. Most of us, whether raised in the glitz and glamour of a big city such as Las Vegas, or in the peaceful solitude of a tiny one-horse town, have made some poor sexual choices that we’re not proud of. However, our past is simply what we’ve done. It’s not who we are. Our past certainly doesn’t have to dictate our future, but can merely serve as a spiritual marker of how far God has brought us since we made those choices.

Girlfriend, please hear me as I declare that the blood Jesus shed for us on the cross IS sufficient to cleanse us from every sin, even sexual sins. Our identity is shaped not by our sexual histories, but by the fact that we are being transformed into His likeness with ever increasing glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). Also, 2 Corinthians 5:17 promises that “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” Therefore, “Let us approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Let’s not allow what happened at CALVARY to stay at Calvary! No matter who you are, where you live, or what you’ve done, let us all gratefully receive God’s gift of mercy, grace, and unconditional love!

A new writing project—one that I’d love your help on! This will be a self-help book published by Random House for the secular market called, The Sexually-Confident Wife: Overcoming the Hurdles that Hold Women Back.

We’re currently gathering testimonies and questions from both women and men regarding the issues that rob a wife of her sexual confidence, and how she can regain it to become the sexually-confident, sexually-satisfied woman she deserves to be. If you would like to submit a personal testimony or question you’d like to see addressed in this book, please email Shannon at sethridge@shannonethridge.com. By doing so, you’ll be entered into a drawing to receive one of the 25 free autographed copies we’ll be awarding upon its release in 2008!

We continue to experience a tremendous burden for the youth of Zimbabwe after our two-week mission trip this past September. At the invitation of Youth for Christ, we traveled to 16 different high schools, churches, and orphanages and spoke to over 6,000 teen girls and boys. Many approached with tears in their eyes saying, “Both my parents have already died of AIDS, and I assumed my life would end the same way. But you gave me hope that I can choose not to get this disease by saving sex for marriage!” (for our complete update, click here).

Unfortunately, we were only able to get 120 books into the country, but we hope to send hundreds or even thousands more in the coming year.
